Born in 1835, Mark Twain is best known for two novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Hucklberry Finn. He is also credited as one of the fathers of American Literature.

A poet, political writer, and novelist in the mid 19th century, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper was a powerful force for change in her time. She was an abolitonist, and worked with the Underground Railroad to free slaves. She was also a women's rights activist and fought for the rights of African American women.
